About Katharine

Katharine Hayhoe is an atmospheric scientist whose life’s work has been dedicated to discovering and communicating the realities of a changing climate to those who will be affected most by it.

As a professor in the Department of Political Science and director of the Climate Science Center at Texas Tech University, Katharine develops new ways to quantify the potential impacts of human activities at the regional scale. She serves as a lead author for the U.S. National Climate Assessment, and hosts the PBS Digital Series, Global Weirding.

Her efforts to reach out to and engage people on the importance of climate solutions has led to her being named one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People, Foreign Policy’s 100 Leading Global Thinkers, and Fortune’s 50 World’s Greatest Leaders. She has also received the American Geophysical Union’s Climate Communication Prize, the Sierra Club’s Distinguished Service Award, and National Center for Science Education’s Friend of the Planet award.
