About Shi-Ling

Dr. Shi-Ling Hsu is the D’Alemberte Professor of Law and Associate Dean for Environmental Programs at the Florida State University College of Law. He teaches and writes in the areas of environmental and natural resource law, climate change, law and economics, and property. He has also been an Associate Professor at the George Washington University Law School and the University of British Columbia Faculty of Law. He has published in a wide variety of journals and has written The Case for a Carbon Tax: Getting Past our Hang-ups to Effective Climate Policy, which remains the most comprehensive general treatment and argument for carbon taxation.

Prior to entering academia, Professor Hsu was a senior attorney and economist for the Environmental Law Institute in Washington, D.C. After graduating from law school, he practiced law with the firm of Fenwick and West in Palo Alto and was a deputy city attorney for the City and County of San Francisco. Professor Hsu holds a M.S. in ecology and a Ph.D. in agricultural and resource economics, and was an EPA Star Fellow from 1996-98. He received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering and J.D. degrees from Columbia University, and his M.S. and PhD degrees from the University of California at Davis. He has completed 22 marathons, including 6 Boston Marathons.
